Tesamorelin: The Stabilised GHRH Analogue Explained

Tesamorelin is the only GHRH analogue that has reached a licensed indication in some countries, which makes it a useful reference point among growth-hormone-axis peptides.

What tesamorelin is

Tesamorelin is the full 44-amino-acid sequence of human growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) with a trans-3-hexenoyl group added to the N-terminus. That modification protects it from the DPP-4 enzyme, which quickly breaks down native GHRH.

It is licensed in the United States for a specific indication but has no UK marketing authorisation. Research-grade material is for laboratory use only.

How it compares with other GHRH analogues

Compound Length Key modification
Native GHRH 44 aa None — very short-lived
Sermorelin 29 aa Truncated active fragment
CJC-1295 without DAC 29 aa Four amino-acid substitutions
CJC-1295 with DAC 29 aa Substitutions plus albumin-binding linker
Tesamorelin 44 aa N-terminal hexenoyl group

All of these act on the same pituitary GHRH receptor. They differ mainly in stability and duration, not in the receptor they target.

Why visceral fat features in its research

Growth hormone influences lipolysis, particularly in visceral adipose tissue — the fat around internal organs. Tesamorelin's clinical development focused on that tissue, so visceral fat measurements, liver fat and IGF-1 levels are recurring endpoints in the literature.

Research interest also covers:

  • Whether GHRH-driven GH release, which keeps normal pulsatility and somatostatin feedback, behaves differently from giving GH directly
  • Effects on hepatic fat in metabolic liver-disease models
  • IGF-1 and glucose-metabolism markers

Comparing tesamorelin listings

  1. Identity is critical. Tesamorelin is a long, modified peptide. Mass-spec data should confirm the hexenoyl modification (molecular weight about 5.1 kDa).
  2. Compare price per mg on our tesamorelin comparison page.
  3. Don't treat it as a direct substitute for shorter GHRH analogues in research design. Its length and stability differ.

Summary

Tesamorelin is a stabilised full-length GHRH analogue with a well-documented clinical history in one indication. It has no UK licence. PeptideCompare provides no dosing or usage guidance, and nothing here is for human or veterinary use.
