Cagrilintide Explained: The Long-Acting Amylin Analogue
Most metabolic peptide research focuses on GLP-1. Cagrilintide works on a different hormone — amylin — and its interest comes largely from how the two systems combine.
What amylin is
Amylin is a 37-amino-acid hormone released by pancreatic beta cells together with insulin. In physiology and animal models it:
- Acts on brainstem areas involved in satiety
- Slows gastric emptying
- Suppresses glucagon after meals
Native human amylin clumps together (aggregates) easily and is short-lived, which makes it difficult to work with.
What cagrilintide is
Cagrilintide is an engineered amylin analogue with:
- Amino-acid substitutions that reduce aggregation
- A fatty-acid side chain that binds albumin and extends its half-life
It is a non-selective agonist: it activates amylin receptors (calcitonin receptor plus RAMP accessory proteins) and the calcitonin receptor on its own.
Cagrilintide is an investigational drug and is not licensed in the UK. Research material is for laboratory use only.
Why the GLP-1 combination matters
Cagrilintide is in clinical development in combination with semaglutide. The research question is whether amylin and GLP-1 pathways, which act on partly different brain regions, have additive effects. It is a different approach from adding more receptor targets to one molecule, as retatrutide does.
Research themes
- Amylin/calcitonin receptor pharmacology and receptor selectivity
- Combination effects with GLP-1 agonists
- Body-composition and lean-mass questions shared across the class
- Gastrointestinal tolerability

Comparing cagrilintide listings
- Identity is critical. Cagrilintide is a long, lipidated peptide. Mass-spec data should match the expected molecular weight.
- Compare price per mg on our cagrilintide comparison page.
- Check how blends are labelled. Some suppliers list combination vials; check each component's amount.
Summary
Cagrilintide is a long-acting amylin analogue studied mainly for how it combines with GLP-1 pathways. PeptideCompare provides no dosing or usage guidance, and nothing here is for human or veterinary use.
